Rainbow Springs FL 2-1-2019
We leave Fort Myers Sunseeker RV Park thankfully and head to Dunnellon, FL where Rainbow Springs FL state park resides, we were lucky to get a camping spot that allows a pull through as we are only going to be here one night. The park has two parts, the area we stayed in was for campers and had access to the river, the other area was for day use and is where the spring and falls were at. Please look at the first picture below to explain how to get to the camp ground, your GPS will take you to the day use only area. The Rainbow Springs have an interesting history, it use to be a site for a mine and a private tourist attraction, it was inhabited by the Timucua natives 10,000 years ago and still a very popular place to visit today. We walk down to the Rainbow River where there is a kayak or raft launch, the water is crystal blue with lots of fish just below the service. As the sign says watch out for alligators but, the ranger said not likely, there are plenty of other wild animals to include a covey of wild turkeys about 30 feet from us. We decide to entertain ourselves with the Spanish Moss which drapes from almost every limb. This is definitely one of our favorite stops.
