Oregon Coast 2-12-2020
We are excited to get back on the road and have decided to head south looking for sun, the missing quotient in the Willamette Valley during the winter. Our plan is to head down the Oregon coast and spend our first night in Brookings OR at a state park called Harris Beach. Leaving our home late was not the plan, however we were committed to get there that night because our deposit was not refundable. It’s over a 5 hour drive especially the way we went, we do not recommend this route in the dark but during the day its beautiful. We took exit 162 off of I-5 through Drain and Elkton that puts you on HWY 38 getting us to Reedsport OR. Can you Imagine living in Drain Oregon and having to answer “I live in Drain”. Its very dark out by this time and our ETA will be 1:00 AM. I do my best to not setup in the dark especially after driving most of the night due to the possibility of making mistakes and having my lights on inside the campsite. It’s a relief to get over the coast range and arrive on a somewhat familiar Hwy 101 south along the coast. Wishing this would have been a daylight drive because the coastal scenery is beautiful full of dramatic views of the ocean and tree-lined roads. We arrive and the park is full, everyone is asleep and not appreciating my lights as I drive around looking for our site. We plug in and get the slide outs in place, sleep is welcomed and needed.
