7-7-2020 Gulkana River

Day 3 we are getting the hang of things paddling and doing our best to avoid the boulders just under the surface, fishing is still very slow. It’s very strange to not see hardly any wild life, the salmon truly determine what goes on in the eco system. This camp we found is perfect, it’s about eight feet up on an island, most of the under growth has been cut making a camp site easy to use. The wind is blowing about 15 miles per hour so Jamie sets up a wind block with a blue tarp. We set up camp and find the gas stove not wanting to work, after all its only 30 years old. We can see a gasket has disintegrated which controls the gas. No Coleman parts out here but I think I can make some silicone tape work, otherwise we will be cooking on an open fire. My middle name is MacGyver and it works at least long enough to cook dinner which is some of Jay’s great sausage.
