Portland Boondocking 10-6-2018
After arriving from the coast and spending a little more time with our daughter Mackenzie, Husband Jeff and sweet granddaughter Delilah, we thought we would try our Boondocking skills out that night. We had heard and seen on RV blogs that Walmart’s in some areas allow for overnight stays, we checked a web resource and found one not far from Mackenzie & Jeff’s at Eastport Plaza, we did some light shopping at the store and set up camp in a space that allowed our slide outs to not interfere with traffic. We also saw another RV not too far from us so that reassured us we could be there. So after a few hours of organizing things and starting to write about our adventures (10:00pm) we see flashing lights outside followed by a firm knock on the door, I open the door to a older security cop saying you can’t be here, I pleaded my case with we checked the website and it said overnight stays were allowed, he said the store management says no, I thought to myself, I could go in and convince them then thinking about so many homeless people in the area that is why they can’t allow a boondocker like us to overnight. We start the routine of un-leveling the RV, putting things away for travel and wondering where are we going to go now, I type in overnight parking Portland and the Holgate park & Ride comes up saying 24 hr. parking is ok, we drive a short ways away from Walmart and sure enough a nice big parking lot and a flat place to park, its 10:45 at night now and ready for sleep, I parked strategically so we could put the slide out and call it a night. You have to treat the freeway noise as white noise otherwise you will never get to sleep.
