We plan to go to Pensacola to visit the National Naval Air Museum and then go to The Five Sisters Blues Cafe for Brunch. This NAS base (Naval Air Base) in Pensacola is the home to The Blue Angeles and the National Naval Air Museum. Our GPS took us to the wrong entry so once we found the right gate, we entered one of the most famous historic Naval Bases. The museum was not far into the base and easy to recognize with the fighter jet posed for in a inflight position out front. We are greeted by volunteers who are enlisted navy men eager to help us get registered and started through the museum. There is no charge and you get go through by yourself or a guided tour, we highly recommend the tour. Our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, again a volunteer and a pilot for many years. Usually I’m not so interested in a guided tour but he changed my mind in the first few minutes. The planes on display were all the real deal with the exception of the wright brothers’ plane as it was a very authentic copy. You find when you go through history in a place like this how little you know or understand about that time and the sacrifices people made for our freedom.  I have a connection to some of the oldest planes as my grandfather was a pilot in the first World War. I have his photographs from when he was in France and flew over Germany. I was given the negatives from my mom and went and had them printed and put in an album, see below. As the story goes my grandfather was a pilot observer which meant he would fly over enemy territory and shoot pictures of the enemy’s movements and report back to the base. He use to carry a hand gun to shot at the enemy aircraft to defend himself (before guns where mounted on the aircraft). Another story is he was awarded the Iron Cross (as a joke) which was given to German aviators who had shot down French or American planes, the reason he was given this award was that he crashed 3 planes that he was piloting, see below. If you time it right the Blue Angels practice at the adjoining field to the museum and you can watch them for free. So as if we did not eat well enough today we stopped by our favorite market Publix to pick up a few things. We are very particular about our food and this market is extraordinary with a great selection of organic foods at a very fair price, love their buy one get one free. You will find as I continue this adventure story I will weave in things I recommend for life in general and for your health. So in traveling, every area has some different foods to include vegetables, take a look at the Hall avocado below, it’s a monster, it does not have the flavor of the smaller ones but nothing a little salt does not cure.
