Navarre FL 1-23-2019
Today is departure day and our RV is looking like a beehive of activity. I always empty the black and grey tanks plus fill the fresh water tank so if we boondock we will be set. It’s been awhile since we have been traveling in our RV and we are excited to get this adventure started. One thing to mention is when you are in one place for a while you need to start your RV engine up long enough to get the engine warm, I always unplug the power cord, and also start your generator to keep things in good running condition. I set my calendar for once a week for a reminder to do so. We cruise up to the office to say goodbye and also get our propane tank topped off. Its approaching the 12:00 time and figure we will stop for lunch in Destin Fl to a local place called the Donut Hole, yes they have a full menu as well as great donuts. This place was recommended by our good friends the Gardner’s who have been coming here for years, you should share the omelets as they are huge, no pictures phot shopped here. Great way to start this new road trip, we will see how far down the coast we get. Angela has her copilot hat on today starting the search for a place to spend the night. We head down Hwy 98 that runs along the beach most of the way knowing we will be going through Panama Beach which had a disastrous Hurricane Michael go through only a few months ago, the pictures below barely show what happened here. There were piles of debris everywhere and we could only see what there was from the hwy. The good news was it was very busy there with the cleanup and rebuilding, lots of trailers housing people. On to the real epicenter of the storm, Mexico City FL. Its right on the beach with no where to go, it was stormy the day we drove through and the waves were very close to the road.
Angela is struggling to find a place for the night but we settle for a city park Sochoppy Florida City Park. Its been raining off and on so the ground was saturated and the choices for a spot were limited, the manager that night was well lets say he started the drinking early and insisted on cash from us and had no change, which is always questionable but, we are tired and ready for rest and some dinner. It rains all night and we wake up to our rig surrounded by water, we were wondering if we can make it through the bog. I asses the road and feel confident that the dual wheels will get us through. I rev the engine and off we roll through the water like a boat. Once we reach the drier parking lot we park and take a walk down the boardwalk crossing the Ochlockonee River then off we go to Fort Meyers.
