Howenwald TN- 3-5/6-2019
It’s clear and cold at Natchez Trace Campground (25 degrees), we always worry about our pipes freezing so we leave the doors open under the sinks and faucets dripping. The sun is warming things up as we head out to the nearest town, Hohenwald, TN a typical country farm town. We find the Southern Skillet restaurant, one of the few restaurants in town and find the lunch time rush in full swing, we are noticed as tourist but everyone has their southern hospitality turned on. I order the lunch special but was warned they could be out, lucky for me they had some left, yes it was $6.99 and the lemon drop cake was $2.84. After getting our fill we are off to see the historic sites of Natchez Trace. We find the National Historic Park of Meriwether Lewis. The park ranger was just setting up for the spring opening and was kind enough to share his knowledge of the Grinder House and the history around it. We find it interesting where ever we go that the history is always different than the history books from school. Down the Parkway we go and find another park where a historic foundry use to be Steele’s Iron Works and Metal Ford. Back we go to Hohenwald for a little shopping at Pack Rats and coffee at Rock House across the street. We were told not to miss All Around Southern Mercantile so off we go to find a very eclectic mix of local artesian food and décor, don’t miss this store.
