Coronado Island CA 2-26-2020

We are ready for some beach time and head to Oceanside and Carlsbad CA on Hwy 76, its only 42 miles and a pleasant drive through the hills. Another sunny day and in the 70’s, the air is so refreshing as you approach the coast. Carlsbad is a charming coastal town with a California surf beat going on. Its all about the beach, surfing and laid back life it offers. Heading down the coast we stop in Encinitas CA about half the size of Carlsbad but twice as many surfers. Its lunch time and we find this cute place called La French Corner, its easy to see why the name with an owner, an older lady speaking French who is very congenial. Espresso, crepes, soups and sandwiches is the fare, Angela is in heaven with the coffee and quiche and I have a caprese baggett sandwich, it was excellent. Driving along the beach fills your senses with warm memories of times before as a child, we stop and park near a trail to the beach. An enterprising women has her van parked near the beach, its called Surfs Pup Doggie Lounge, a very clever Idea to leave your dog while you surf or enjoy the beach, most beaches are not dog friendly in CA. Down to the beach we go where it is a mixed crowd of locals and tourists from around the world, overhearing conversation of languages we did not understand. With sand between our toes we enjoy the surf and sun, then back to the car so we can travel down the coast to our place of marriage, Coronado Island. Coronado has many things to offer, great hotels, restaurants, lots of beach and shopping to please all. We decided to grab some dinner before heading back and seafood is always a good choice, Peohe’s is right on the water, its a Landry property so we know its good. We get seated and Angela loves having fried calamari, the waiter assures us its great and big enough for both of us, he was right. On the way back we find a Costco for fuel in San Marcos, we love Costco and especially their fuel prices.
