Blue Lake CA, 3-10-2020
We are up early to see how far we can get today, we are hoping to get as far as the California coast. We have been having trouble with our living room slide and this morning is no different. It starts to go in then one side goes farther in than the other and it stalls. We keep running it in and out and with a shove from me we finally get it in far enough that we can travel. If you already did not know your RV will not move forward until the slides are in for safety. We decide to go through Redding and the Shasta Trinity National Forest. We find an RV repair place called Blue Dog RV in Redding CA in hopes they can solve the slide problem because at this point we are afraid to put the slide out in case it gets stuck. Most RV repair places are so far booked out that seldom can they see you for A/O service. We call and reach the sales manager Shawn Hernandez and he says come on by which surprises us. We arrive in Redding CA and find Blue Dog RV, they are busy as most RV places are these days, we squeeze in front of the work bays and ask for Shawn. He comes over with a smile and I explain what is going on, he takes a look and thinks he can reset the motors on the slide. I’m familiar with the reset button that is in a difficult place in one of the storage bays. Shawn does his best but with no results, he pulls his head tech over to do what he can, again without good result. Because of their thoughtful customer service I would buy from them. They do get the slide back in and suggest when we get home to see someone in our area. At this point they have spent 30 to 40 minutes and I ask him what do I owe him, he said nothing but a chance to do business with them at a later date. We are thankful and start over the mountain range and Mendocino National Forest to the California coast. The Highway 299 travels along the Trinity River with beautiful scenery, we wish we could park and stay awhile but we need to get home. We find a Casino in Blue Lake CA that we can dry camp for $10. The Blue Lake Casino is really nice with a hotel and restaurants. We sign in at the front desk and then drive to the RV area for overnight parking. We get set up and then walk to the casino to see if they have any free play, they did not but they did have a great restaurant called Sushi Blue. We had a great meal and retired to our RV. It wasn’t 10 minutes after we were back that a big semi pulls next to us, the semi’s will run their engines all night sometimes depending on weather. Its cold outside and his engines were not going to shut off. We knew that if he did not move would not only hear him but smell the diesel fumes all night. I ask him to move so he moves 50 feet away which was not enough. I go to the front desk of the hotel to complain and was met with so-so attitude. The truck did not move so a phone call to the manager got their attention and he moved far enough away to make the sound distant.
