10-15-20 Bend OR
Big trip to Zion with our first stop in Bend OR. We traveled along the Santiam Pass for the first time since the horrific fires of last summer, it was devastating to see, all the burnt homes and trees. We had to make a number of stops as the work continues to clear the scorched trees from the surrounding forest. Having grownup and enjoyed the beautiful Santiam River with its the green forests its just hard to believe what we are seeing. Arriving in Bend we meet with friends at the famous Pine Tavern, it was a place my mother used to go to in the 1930’s, great memories, great food. I’m a sucker for meatloaf and Angela had the stroganoff, the lemon drop cheese cake was a perfect ending to the meal. Warning the dinner donuts (scones) can be addicting and a well known item at The Pine Tavern. We reserved a RV space at the Expo Center in Redmond Oregon for the night, its attached to the Deschutes County Fair Grounds, a very nice place at a reasonable price. The cover picture is from Mike Putnam Photographer, that’s what the Santiam used to look like.
