A little about us, Angela and I have been together for 29 years and married for 27 years, kind of hard to believe as I look at her now and still see my girlfriend. Life is full of unexpected surprises, good ones and not so good ones, Angela was a good one. We lived most of our lives in Anchorage Alaska which we loved, brought up children and enjoyed all that Alaska offered. Angela worked for Nordstrom as I did, her tenure being much longer than mine, my claim to fame was representing Carhartt for 30 years in the great land of Alaska a perfect state for Carhartt. We decided that the winters were getting longer and a change of scenery was due. My mother was still alive in Eugene OR and I always had fond memories of Bend OR for a place to live, so Oregon here we come. We ended up leaving Alaska in 2009 and driving down the Alcan Hwy making our way to Bend OR. Once we arrived, we were so impressed with the scenery all that Central OR had to offer we knew this was going to be a good place for us. I was a manufacture representative for many company’s and traveling the NW and Angela who became a Real Estate Broker in Alaska took her test for her Oregon license. It was a great time to buy in Bend as 2009 was still a time when properties were affordable.
I am a Cancer survivor from 2004 as I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, so the reason I’m sharing this with you is because it does get us to start our RV travel adventures. My Prostate Cancer was aggressive so I took an aggressive approach with 36 radiation treatments. I spent 2 1/2 months back at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion IL. It was a life changing experience as cancer can be, however this facility was like no other, my advice is if you have cancer or know of a family member or friend please have them call for an opinion, they have a 24-hr. call in service. This facility is private however they take most insurances and Medicare with Supplemental plans.
So now we are in Bend loving life and I joined Angela in Real Estate as Team Tweedie, with business being brisk we are finding great customers who turn into friends. We currently are working for Fred Real Estate Group in Bend a very innovative company and we can be virtual Real Estate Agents. Late 2016 I found blood in my urine which never is good and after my Urologist discovered cancer in my bladder, after going through the thoughts of why me again we discovered the radiation treatments of 2005 was probably the cause of my bladder cancer now. So, we went after it again from all sides doing what the orthodox doctors recommended and some alternative treatments.
A year later they were going to do surgery in February 2018 to remove more suspicious spots, they went in and my bladder was clear a somewhat surprise to all of us, although a good surprise. With this health reprieve we started to consider our life and how we wanted to spend it. Bladder cancer is usually curable but it does have a high rate of reoccurring so a maintenance plan of BCG’s treatments every 6 months with Cysto is the protocol. We had always had a dream of RVing and seeing this great country but we thought probably not for another few years, the news of hearing all clear changed that why not now when I feel good and able to do the trip. Well most people keep their home buy an RV and go out for a month or two, nope not us we sold our home stored the keeper stuff, rented a house for a month and half, bought a RV, bought a tow car, sold our other vehicles. Talk about jumping in the pool and learning to swim.
