Columbia RV Park 10-14-2018
Clear & cool this morning, slept well, definitely need a shower and really looking forward to it, we are only 50 feet away from the shower house. I grab my stuff and head over to the showers, just started to get my clothes off and the phone rings, its Angela and she sounds panicked, I’m alarmed as she says I’m not sure what’s wrong but my left arm has gone numb and my heart is racing, I tell her to lay down, take an aspirin and I will get back to her as soon as I can. Fearing its a heart attack or stroke, I’m in full rescue mood. I get back do my best to determine the severity and what will be the best course of action, I can see she is still under stress but it does not feel like a full-blown heart attack as she is conscious and understands what is going on. I reassure Angela it will be ok and find the closest ER, Angela calls our daughter a nurse who says get in to an ER or hospital to get a EKG. I call and Angela tells them how she feels, they tell us to come and they can take care of her, we explain we want a EKG. I run outside and start the un-hooking process of the RV as its our only means of transportation. I see a neighbor and explain to him we are coming back he reassures me all our stuff we are leaving behind will be safe. I plug the address into the GPS, I’m familiar with the urgent care place called Zoom Care at Cascade Station shopping center. I push the RV as much as I think reasonable down the road along the Columbia River and PDX airport. We get there and re-explain the situation and a doctor comes out to explain they cannot do a EKG as they don’t have the equipment, we are not happy. We get the address of an ER center a few miles away, we again drive the RV like it’s a 15,000 lb. car to get there, this is a urgent care that is connected to a hospital, we again explain the situation to the desk staff they are questioning Angela’s insurance Liberty Health Share, its not insurance but a cost sharing healthcare, it does pay for medical bills but in some cases if they don’t bill them you need to pay up front, at any rate the ER staff was not user friendly and they said no to us. I’m scouring the Liberty Health Share website on my phone with little to no results, thankfully there was a doctor over hearing the circumstance, she steps in and says come on back I want to check your vitals with no charge, we are thankful for her compassion. Angela checks out but with an elevated heart rate which is understandable. We find another urgent care (American Family Care) and confirm they can do a EKG and will bill our insurance. We get there and find a friendly helpful front desk person and with a short wait the PA comes out and escorts Angela back to a room, they take some information and vitals, next they prepare Angela for the EKG. The process does not take much time and the results are good. So why did this happen, looking back Angela had a new French press coffee maker that maximized the caffeine, she had been straining her left arm this morning reaching into a tall cabinet and when her heart was racing and her left arm went numb she concluded it was or could be a stoke or heart attack which creates its own stress. We head back to the RV park relieved that Angela did not end up in the hospital. We will use American Family Care as we travel across the USA for any other medical care situation because of the great and friendly service. I don’t drink much anymore but was considering a big drink after today.
