Eureka Springs AR 3-24/25-2019
Off we go to Eureka Springs AR, this is an area in the Ozark Mountains that have been a destination spot for lots of people. We cross the Arkansas River and travel through many of their rolling hills full of farms. My co-pilot Angela finds a place in the middle of town, this time of year a lot of places are just beginning to get ready for their tourist season. The Wanderlust RV Park turns out to be a great spot. We arrive late and don’t have time to see any of the sites but, Jeff the owner see’s us to our site and says take your time tomorrow and check out late so you can see the sites, very friendly. This RV park by the way is rated number #1 in Arkansas. We get started early and head over to Christ of the Ozarks, Angela was here on her 1st honeymoon (1977) and looks forward to seeing it again. This destination encompasses 700 acres and has many areas of interest, The Passion Play is one of its main draws and has a theater that seats 4,100 people, they are sold out most of the time, the statue of Christ is the signature piece to this attraction and has a great story about it. They also have a place called the Holy Land that has been reconstructed to match the time of Christ, they also do a play here but this time of year its maintenance time. Interestingly enough they have a piece of the Berlin Wall and a natural occurring round stone. There is a gift shop with a collection of ancient bibles as well as a place for tourists to gather before the play and tours. The next point of interest is down the road called Thorncrown Chapel, I have always been interested in architecture and this place is one of the most incredible buildings I have ever seen. Please click on the link to get the whole story. Once inside it takes your breath away. The chapel can be reserved for weddings, what a great place to have a wedding. On the property there is another church where they have services called Thorncrown Worship Center. Its time for lunch and downtown we go, its an old town with lots of history, narrow streets with an eclectic collection of business’s. We find a restaurant called the Local Flavor and have a great meal. We would like to stay longer but time for us to continue west to get home. Our destination tonight is Checotah OK to stay at Onapa RV Park.
