Mendocino CA 2-14-2020

We just hate waking up to a sheriff on a bull horn telling us we have 20 minutes to leave where we have been parked overnight, even though it was not posted “no overnight parking” in effect. We button up quickly at sheriff’s request and head down the road to find a restaurant for some breakfast.  The countryside is beautiful with the sun coming up and farm land on either side is lined with green pastures and farm animals. One of the great benefits of Rving is the ability to get off the beaten path and find little gems so the next town we discover is Point Arena.  It’s a small town, about 500 hundred people, however it has a cute main street where we find Point Arena Cafe for breakfast.  Parking is always troublesome at 43 feet, I thought I was so clever as I found a space long enough to park on main street. I pull in at a slant towards the sidewalk and find a friendly face walking up the sidewalk pointing at my roof, I had pinched my roof into a sign post that I did not see, the good news is no damage done however I can’t backup to dislodge myself so undoing the tow car was my punishment before breakfast. We walk to the cafe only a few feet down the street and noticed across the street there was a line to get into a bakery business called Franny’s Cup & Sauce, we will get Angela a cup of coffee there. We finished the breakfast which was great and walk up the street to Franny’s Cup & Saucer to wait in line outside just to get in, we peek inside and now see what all the fuss is about, glass cases full of the most tempting pastries and Quiche I have ever seen, it was worth the wait!  We’re absolutely stuffed as we continue down the California Coast again in hopes of finding a place to stay by tonight. If you have ever been on Hwy 1 California beware as the warnings says; RVs and trucks above 28 feet in length not recommended. The views are incredible however the 1,000 foot drop offs and curves can make you uneasy. Anytime you go around a corner and have a full vision of your tow vehicle you know its a sharp curve. Again, I remind you this is Valentine’s weekend and the road is packed. Angela is coming up empty handed for a place to stay tonight, the sun is setting as we pass the signs saying no vacancy and campsites are full. We end up in Mendocino CA for the night and find another place that was not posted for “no overnight parking” but knew we were taking a chance.
