Navarre FL 1-16-2019
Today we are going to talk about heating our RV. We have found that Florida weather does get cold at night and even sometimes during the day. RV heating systems are set up to run on electricity and or propane, when you are boondocking propane is of course your choice but if you are setup in a RV park where you have the option of having electricity to heat your rig. The heating system works very well either with propane or electricity but it is very noisy mostly from the blower and it will continue to cycle as the thermostat demands. RV’s for the most part are not insulated very well so it takes a lot of heat or cooling to maintain a consistent temperature inside. Also, if you choose propane for heating you will eventually run out and need to get the tank refilled, how can you best refill it without unhooking everything and drive to a place to refill? you could get an extra tank (more costs and a storage problem) so, to eliminate not only the refilling process, we decided to buy some high efficiency portable electric heaters. Our go to store these days is Walmart for a number of reasons, price, selection and store locations. They had a great selection at a reasonable price. The first ones we purchased were these Soleil Brand MH-04W, 350-watt plugin heater. they were on sale for around $12.00 at the time, we bought two. We plugged one in the living room/ Kitchen area and the other one in our bedroom, they worked great. Any weather below 40 degrees and I would suggest the larger one, Soleil Digital Electric Portable Ceramic Space Heater 1500 watts. What is great about these heaters is they have thermostats so you don’t have to baby sit them just set and forget, they are also very safe and much quieter than the RV furnace.
