Back inside the National Petrified Forest Park this morning to see their museum and gift shop. The museum was fantastic for setting the tone for what happened here 200 million years ago. To see some of the animals of that time was extraordinary. Outside they have done a great job creating all kinds trails throughout the park, you can even arrange to tent camp in some areas. We choose to hike to the Agate House, part of the trail uses the old route 66 road, pretty cool. As we approach the Agate House we see antelope running in the near distance, always great to see wild animals, hard to believe they can exist in this harsh country. Back on the road heading towards Sedona AZ, we stop in the town of Holbrook for lunch and can see this is a tourist town especially with the Wigwam motel. We find a local restaurant, Tom & Susie’s Dinner, you can tell the locals like this place. The food was excellent and family run, the grandson was our server. Off we go down the highway to Sedona AZ and we see a tourist trap sign saying they have the world’s largest petrified tree so we swing in to Geronimo Trading Post and find that it is very large, not sure about world’s largest. It’s getting late and we need to make it to Sedona AZ. We get through Flagstaff AZ and see snow on the side of the road, it’s all downhill from here, unfortunately its a very steep drop to Sedona.
