Wallowa Mts. 8-29-2020
I can’t tell you how long I have been wanting to go to Wallowa Mts. in Northeastern Oregon (wah*la*uh) We both struggled on how to pronounce it correctly so the see above. Nothing worse than traveling to a new place and pronounce the area incorrectly. It is know as the Swiss Alps of Oregon with 31 mountain peaks and grand views across what they call the Eagle Cap Wilderness, depending on who you talk to the Matterhorn peak is the tallest at just over 10,000 feet. Our plan is to stay along the Columbia Gorge at Memeloose Park for the night, the park is full but we talked the ranger in letting us set up in a day camp spot just for the night. The winds along the gorge can be strong up to 35 miles per hour, and its blowing hard enough now to make the tent campers move their tents towards a more protected center of the park. It was a great place to over night. We passed the city of Hood River to get to Memaloose Park where everyone loves the wind as it is one of wind surfing capitals of the world.
